Yamal beat Barcelona to win the title with 2 matches remaining

Image
Barcelona almost reclaimed the La Liga title after beating Real Madrid in El Clasico. They needed just two points. Lamine Yamal secured the Catalans the championship with a full three points with two games left in the season. The 17-year-old Spanish star scored a goal himself and set up another for his teammate as Barcelona beat Espanyol 2-0 to win their 28th La Liga title. Yamal was unable to take advantage of the first half at the opponent’s RCDE Stadium yesterday (Thursday) night. In the second half, he returned the Catalans to their usual rhythm. In addition, Fermin Lopez secured Barca’s victory with a goal. Real won their 36th La Liga title last season. This time, Hansi Flick’s disciples restored the title by keeping them in two. Flick made a few changes to the starting eleven from the 4-3 win against Real in El Clasico. Although they controlled the ball from the start, the host Espanyol got the first chance. However, in the fourth minute, their low shot by Urco Gonzalez was off...

Barcelona have the opportunity to achieve two things in one match

Image
Barcelona’s biggest rival in football is Real Madrid .  There is no question about that. However, Barcelona may consider another team as big a rival as Real. Barcelona’s city rival, Espanyol, which is a bearer of Catalan ethnicity. And not just a city rival. While Barcelona believes in the Catalan idea, a section of Espanyol is a supporter of Madrid-based Spain. The match against Espanyol, which is far behind in strength, is something very special for Barcelona. Team Barca is very serious in the Catalan derby at 1:30 am Bangladesh time. However, there is a special occasion in this match. Barcelona will confirm the La Liga title if they win today’s match. Barcelona had already done their job. Last week, Barcelona defeated their arch-rival Real Madrid in La Liga and gained a 7-point lead. There were 3 matches left in the league. If  Real Madrid lost a point in their match yesterday ,  Barca would have confirmed the title. However, Los Blancos defeated Mallorca 2-1 at home w...

Inter Miami Sad After Loss, Even With Messi’s Goal

Image
Inter Miami could have recovered from their CONCACAF Champions League  semi-final defeat to become the table toppers in Major League Soccer (MLS). But Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano’s team are on the verge of further decline in the top flight of American club football. Despite a goal from the Argentine captain, the Florida club were utterly devastated by Minnesota United. Inter Miami dominated the match at the opponent’s stronghold, Allianz Field. The difference in possession between the two teams was huge. Without Luis Suarez, Miami struggled with finishing despite having 74 percent of the ball. The visitors conceded two goals in both halves. Messi’s goal only reduced the margin of defeat. Host Minnesota defeated Miami by a large margin of 4-1. Former Uruguayan star Suarez was absent from the match for personal reasons. Miami also felt his absence in attack, and the game was rhythmless despite having the ball at their feet most of the time.  Miami conceded two goals befor...

Champions League Sees Rare Final After 21 Years

Image
When was the last time an Italian team won the Champions League? Or when was the last time a French team won the highest trophy in European club football? Unless you’re a die-hard football fan, it’s going to be a bit difficult to answer. In recent times, the  Champions League  has been dominated by clubs from Spain and England. With the exception of the 2020 edition, no club from England or Spain has won the Champions League since 2014. On a larger scale, since the 2010 edition, no other club from England or Spain has been able to compete with the dominance of an English or Spanish club in the Champions League except Bayern Munich. However, this time, that cycle is sure to be broken. Italian club Inter Milan has secured its place in the 2025 Champions League final by defeating Barcelona in a dramatic semi-final. And Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) of France has secured its ticket to the final by eliminating Arsenal. This means that after 21 years, no club from Germany, England or Sp...

Arsenal Are Clearly the Best, Says Coach Arteta

Image
Mikel Arteta said Arsenal were the best team in the  Champions League   this season, even though they lost in the semi-finals to Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal needed to win at PSG after losing the first leg 1-0 at home to reach the final against Inter Milan. They had several good chances but couldn’t beat PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma until Bukayo Saka scored late. By that time, Fabian Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi had already scored for PSG, giving them a 2-1 win in the second leg and a 3-1 victory overall. Arteta said, “We were very close, closer than the score shows, but sadly, we’re out.” “I’m very proud of the players. From what I’ve seen, Arsenal were the best team in the competition. But we’re out. In this competition, it’s all about taking chances and having strong goalkeepers, and PSG had the better ones in both games.” Arsenal  couldn’t reach their first Champions League final since 2006 , and after the loss, the players were seen crying in the dressing room. Coac...

Big Champions League Moment After 2,561 Days

Image
Denzel Dumfries  played a big role in scoring 5 of the 13 goals across both matches. The Dutch right wing-back helped stop Barcelona’s strong form and led Inter Milan to the Champions League final. In both attack and defense, Dumfries performed really well in both games. His great play was a key reason why Inter reached the final. Dumfries wasn’t expected to play in the semi-finals because he was out with an injury for a long time. But he made a strong return in the first leg against Barcelona. He impressed everyone by giving an assist in just 30 seconds and then scoring two goals in the same match. In the second leg at home, Dumfries played even better. He made two assists in the 4-3 win. With that, the Dutch player made Champions League history — only three other players have ever done what he did. Only four players have scored at least 2 goals and made 2 assists across both legs of a  Champions League semi-final.  The first to do this was Italian football legend...

Messi’s Team Fails to Reach CONCACAF Final

Image
Lionel Messi’s  Inter Miami were at risk of going out after losing the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semi-final. They were down 2-0 but still had hope with the second match being played at home. However, Messi and Suarez couldn’t turn things around. Instead, they lost again, this time 3-1. With that result, Javier Mascherano’s Miami team was knocked out of the semi-finals by the Vancouver Whitecaps. Inter Miami played against Vancouver at Chase Stadium in Florida. Jordi Alba gave Miami an early lead in the 9th minute. But after that, Vancouver took control and scored three goals. Even though both teams had a chance to reach the final for the first time, Miami ended the match with disappointment. Coach Mascherano started stars like Messi and Suarez and kept them on the field the entire game. Still, they couldn’t make use of their chances. Although Alba’s goal gave Miami hope early on, the team couldn’t hold on. At halftime, Miami was still ahead. But Vancouver equalized...

Champions League: PSG Surprises Arsenal in Semi-Final Clash

Image
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG)  beat Arsenal for the first time ever in a European match. They won 1-0 on Arsenal’s home ground in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final. Ousmane Dembele scored the only goal of the match. With this win, Luis Enrique’s PSG team is now one step closer to reaching the final. Arsenal welcomed PSG to the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday. Football historian Matt Bartz said this was the youngest Champions League semi-final between the two sides since 1995. It was also Arsenal’s first appearance in a Champions League semi-final in 5,838 days. The match started fast, with Ousmane Dembele scoring in just the fourth minute after a brilliant team move, giving PSG an early lead and silencing the home crowd. The French star scored with a quick shot after receiving a long pass from Georgian winger Kvaratskhelia. His left-footed strike passed through several defenders and ended up in the corner of the net. In the 31st minute, Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya sto...

Anfield Pressure: Liverpool Feels the Responsibility

Image
Liverpool manager  Arne Slot  says his team has a “big responsibility” to win the club’s 20th league title. They only need one point against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday to do it, after Arsenal drew with Crystal Palace. Liverpool last won the  Premier League in the 2019-20  season under Jurgen Klopp, but fans couldn’t be in the stadium due to Covid. They lifted the trophy in an empty Anfield after waiting 30 years for a top-flight title. Slot said the team knows how important Sunday’s game is. He hopes the fans will give strong support, as they’ve done all season, to help them get the point they still need. Tottenham haven’t won at Anfield since 2011 and have lost 18 league games this season. Their focus may be more on their Europa League semi-final against Bodo/Glimt next Thursday. Meanwhile, Liverpool have only lost twice in the league this season—just once at home—and they’ve picked up 41 points from 16 home games, the best record in the league. Slot Spea...

Real Madrid Gets Two Bad News Before Barcelona Match

Image
Real Madrid  has been struggling in El Clasico matches this season, losing badly in most of them against their rivals Barcelona. They lost the Spanish Super Cup to Barca and are currently 4 points behind them in the La Liga standings. If Real drops points in any upcoming matches, their hopes of winning the La Liga title this year could disappear. Now, both teams are set to meet in the Copa del Rey final — but Real has been hit with bad news before the big game. The  Copa del Rey final   between Real Madrid and Barcelona will take place on Saturday (April 26) at 2 a.m. Before that, Real won 1-0 against Getafe on Wednesday. After the match, coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that two key players, David Alaba and Eduardo Camavinga, will miss the upcoming Clasico due to injuries. Alaba was taken off in the second half and replaced by Camavinga — but then Camavinga also got injured. He has been playing as a defensive midfielder, and sometimes even as a defender this season. In th...

Arsenal Draw Again, Liverpool Move Closer to Title

Image
Are celebrations starting in Liverpool and at Anfield? They could be! The red ribbons might soon be back on the Premier League trophy. If Liverpool avoids a loss against Tottenham on the 29th, they will win the English league title once again. Things could’ve been settled even earlier if  Crystal Palace had beaten Arsenal.  But considering team strength, Arsenal were expected to win. Still, Palace managed a surprise 2-2 draw, even though Arsenal took the lead twice. Now, Arsenal has 67 points from 34 matches. Liverpool, with one game in hand, has 79 points. Even if Arsenal wins all their remaining games and Liverpool loses theirs, both teams would be level on points. But Liverpool has a much better goal difference, which gives them a clear edge. In simple terms, the title is now almost in Liverpool’s hands. Arsenal started strong at home against Crystal Palace. In just the 3rd minute,   Dzhakov Kiewors  scored with a header from an Odegaard free-kick. Palace pushed h...
